Which one can you get into, turn the key, and legally drive on public roads today? The contenders, left to right: !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Update with answer: The Lexus. Despite not running for most of the last 6 months, the ethanol burning tuned to the edge of death Lexus is kicking while the Acura has a bad ignition switch (starter was swapped in our lot last night), and the Honda is just as illegal to drive on the roads as it looks like it would be. Plan is to hot-wire the Acura to get it out of here then wire a push-button ignition under the dash, because the cost of getting a new key cylinder in a ‘97 Acura is going to come close to the value of the car.

The car with the stock ride height is the one that drives.

I’m gonna go with the 2.2CL. But 3 broken cars means you have a 1/3 chance of one of them working everyday.

Gonna say the Accord because it seems most unlikely.

Tumbler crapped out. Currently needs to be hot-wired to start.

Unfortunately the stock ride height one is currently not starting unless you hotwire it.

Accord does run. (Or at least it did 2 weeks ago when it was parked.) But not road-legal at the moment.

That sounds like a good antitheft measure. I had a 2007 F350 that if you treated the lease roads like a rally stage, the key would just fall out of the ignition while driving. It was a feature. Turn the truck on, remove key, lock doors.

Close. The Acura has a dead ignition switch, so it requires hot-wiring to run. He’s hoping to somehow cram the bicycle he keeps here into it, drive it home, bike in tomorrow, then drive the Lexus home tomorrow night.

We’re going to wire a push button under the dash. The idea is that the key will still need to be in “ON” then you push the button the send 12V to the starter relay and turn the car over. Manual transmission is probably more of an anti-theft feature in this city than any ignition device. I had a ‘96 Ford van that the key actually broke off in the ignition sometime around 2005. Just started with a screwdriver. I actually got it fixed, but I can’t imagine anyone actually ever stealing that heap.

Road legal in Texas seems to be a very lose term.
